Happy New Year. I know it’s February.
They say as you get older years seem to speed up and it seems to be true. Christmas came and went. I had family here for Christmas Eve lunch. I spent Christmas Day lolling on the sofa, eating leftovers and chocolates and watching rubbish on the telly. Iain went to his family for the Eve and Day and came here on Boxing Day. We went to a Hogmanay party and who was the dancing queen..?
We are – were – attempting dry January but failed miserably when Iain came for a week. It is now dry time between his visits. It is so nice to eat and drink in company. Also, why torture yourself unnecessarily. Sad to say I don’t sleep any better, feel any fresher. The liver must be enjoying a holiday though. I blame the weather. It has been grey and miserable for most of the beginning of the year. We experienced the fury of the storm Eowyn. I got off lightly. The house was ok but third of the stick shed roof blew off. I bought a tarpaulin and we secured it as well as we could. Another Eowyn and it’d be off. A couple of branches broke off the pine and luckily Iain moved his car to a more sheltered corner otherwise there would have been dents on his car. I had to go out and rake, brush, a load of twigs away. I had a delivery of logs and stacked them. I don’t much like those jobs, I consider them as exercise.
Out of interest I started monitoring my steps and I have to say I fall well below the recommended amount. Partly because I don’t want to stir the cold air around by moving too much and partly because I don’t carry the mobile with me most of the time. It’s heavy enough to drag the trousers down. I refuse to have gadgets like fitbits etc. We are far too reliant on technology. When something goes wrong, it goes wrong big time. I had a brief power cut during the rough days and once again you realise how helpless we are without electricity. I am fortunate enough to have a wood burning stove to keep me warm, and a wee camping stove to cook on. I have a supply of candles and a couple of LED lanterns.
I WILL BE OPENING THE STUDIO OVER THE SPRING FLING WEEKEND, 24-26TH MAY 2025
